The Primal Definition of Food

What is food? This seems like a stupid question right?

Actually, what we think is "stupid" is the fact that we even have to define what food is in the first place. You'd be surprised to know that most people don't know that what they eat every day isn't really FOOD.

To prove this to you we want you to watch this clip of Jamie Oliver's new show, Food Revolution, where a first grade class can't identify everyday vegetables.

I know you are thinking... they are 6....however, if a 6 year old doesn't know the difference between a tomato and a potato, who's to blame? Who's in charge of feeding these 6 year olds? This is alarming to think about how many kids these days haven't been exposed to a whole food.

Here's a tip: If it wasn't around 110 years ago, it's probably not food. If it comes in a box or wrapped in plastic, it's probably not food. If you didn't see the natural, whole ingredients that went into the food... or at least recognize them on a food label.... it's probably not food.

Our definition of food:
Material, usually of plant or animal origin, that contains or consists of essential body nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life.

In simple terms:
To eat food means to eat from these sources: an animal or Mother Earth.  These are recognizable and digestible by the human body and provide us with LIFE.
