Odd Duck Farm to Trailer: local, farm fresh food

Ever since I ( Lauren) moved to Austin I have head about these trailers that serve food which have become some sort of austin tourist attraction as well as a local favorite. I was reading a blog and read about the odd duck farm to trailer which serves fresh, local, farm harvested food. All the menu items come from locally sourced food and the owner prides himself in using the whole animal.

What amazes me about all these austin trailers is that the food is not "trailer-y" at all. Most of them are very well thought out, chef inspired meals, even if they aren't primal ( ahem... Gourgoughs) . Austinites love their food, and they want it to be creative and fun. The trailers deliver.

Odd Duck stuck out to me because of it's local ingredients ( the menu changes daily/seasonally in fact), and it's presence of mostly primal items and lots of grilled veggies.

Some of the offerings for May 1st include
  • grilled asparagus with soft boiled duck egg and goat ricotta
  • roasted brussel sprouts with capers and rabbit belly
  • slow cooked pork leg with sweet onion and kale salad
  • grilled quail with farm potatoes, salumi and aioli
When I think about trailer food, Tacos and sandwiches are what I picture coming out of a trailer. Talk about a gourmet menu. Where else but in austin, and in a trailer would you be able to find "fast food" duck or rabbit belly?

Go on and feast on your primal fare at the Odd Duck on 1219 South Lamar @ Lamar Square.
